Find the Pair
Twelve cards, six pairs. A clue card describes a monument without naming it; a place card shows the monument's name and photograph. Match each clue with the place it describes.
Round 1
Best: —The sentences on the clue cards come from the book. Each card was written from the page of Kültürel Miras Boyutuyla Amasya devoted to that monument; nothing that is not in the book was added. The page number appears when the round is over. The photographs are the archive photographs on the stop pages; their credits also appear at the end of the round. Monuments that are very alike (built by the same person, standing in the same place) do not come up in the same round.
The guest of the celebration
The deer: the elik milked by saints
In many legends told in the villages of Amasya, saints milk the elik, the deer, up in the mountains. Find all six pairs without a single mistake and the deer will come for you.
- EliktekkeZeynel Abidin is said to have yoked his deer to the plough and milked them.
- YolyanıAt Erenler a woman saint is milking a deer and the hunter cannot see her; the deer takes fright and the milk pail tips over.
- Taşova-ŞeyhliOne of the Seven Brides shows herself to people and milks a deer; the deer stirs and the milk is spilt.
These are folk tales, not documents. The saints are not shown; only the deer. The deer are an illustration made with AI (Google Gemini); their colours were inspired by the old velvet deer tapestries that hung on the walls of village homes. How to play
- Face up: tap a clue card, then the card of the place it describes. If you are right, both get the same number.
- Memory: the cards are face down. Turn over two; if they are a pair they stay up, if not they turn back. Remember where each card is.
- Every wrong match counts as a mistake. Your score: how many of the six pairs you found without a mistake.
- Tip: the date, founder and details on a clue card (dome, arch, tiles…) tell you what to look for in the photograph.
