There are no made-up questions in these games. All the dates, inscriptions and names come from Amasya's real monuments and from the site's sourced stop pages. When you give a wrong answer, you also see the right one and how we know it.
Timeline
Five monuments are jumbled up. Put them in order, with the oldest at the top. Was the Burmalı Minare Mosque built first, or the Gökmedrese?
Inscription Master
The dates on the real inscriptions above the doors are Hijri. Convert them to AD. You will find out what ebced (abjad numerals) is, too.
Ferhat's Mountain
How many metres can you dig in thirty seconds? At the end you will see how many metres long the real channel is — and who made it.
Lokman's Papers
At the Kunç Bridge the secret of immortality spills into the Yeşilırmak. How many sheets can you catch before they touch the water? But the story will beat you.
If you are a teacher
These games can also be used in class. The class module sets out when, how and with which question each game can be used; there is also a field-trip plan, worksheets and source-criticism activities. The class module is in Turkish only, as it follows the Turkish national curriculum.
How were these games made?
- The questions were not written by hand. The game data is
generated from the file
veri/eserler.jsonand from the stop pages. If a monument's date is corrected, the game corrects itself. - Inscription questions are checked against the pages. If the Hijri–AD equivalent of an inscription does not appear on the stop page concerned, the check fails and no data is generated at all.
- Monuments on which the sources disagree were left out. Disputed buildings such as the Halifet Gazi Tomb (1209, 1225 or 1228?) or the Çağlayan Bridge (a date between 1075 and 1150) were not put into the “put in order” game — it would be unfair to call an answer wrong when the question has no certain answer.
- Legends are not quiz questions. The Ferhat and Lokman games are for fun and say so openly; they are not presented as questions about documents.
